Text - Font style, Size, Shape, Language and Style.

The font of the magazine is very important as it will give people an impression of what type of magazine it will be, for example:
This magazine is Kerrang, and as you can see by the title, its bold, eye catching and demanding. Also it has an explanation point at the end to give that sense of urgency. Just by the title you can tell that this magazine is aimed at teens and maybe young adults. Also the type of genre you can tell, here it seems like its for a rock or indie magazine as the font isnt formal, its bold and demanding with a cracked glass effect.

This magazine as you can see is totally different from the one above and you can tell by the style of font used, as its thinner and looks classier as thats the type of genre its advertising. By having this font you can see that its for the more mature audience, adults.
---------------------------
As my magazine will be an indie genre aimed at teens and young adults, the Kerrang magazine fits into that type of how I would like to do my font. As my aim of my magazine is to be successful and to fit in with the indie/modern scene, the font needs to be eye catching, demanding, bold and unique. I researched some font ideas on a website that gives out different fonts which gives me an outlook for the whole magazine as the image needs to fit in with the font. Here are some examples..
Brushed
Punk
I find that the Brushed font is eye catching and unique as it seems to be brushed on and also looks modern. I am considering this font as it seems playful and seems to fit my target audience as it doesn't look serious.

The language and style needs to be based around the whole genre and type of magazine otherwise it wont look right and would look unprofessional. The title of the magazine is very important as it sets the mood of the magazine and so does the image. The title needs to be different than the rest of the font as it might get over whelming with all the same font and boring. So using different fonts and style will make the magazine look interesting and different which is what my aim is.With the magazines I've seen around, the titles that are bold seem to grab my attention and so this is a technique that I will be using my on my own one.The language that I will be using will feature some linguistic techniques including the imperative, alliteration, metaphors and adjectives to help the words get to the audience. The register I will be using will be informal but not too informal as this could look sloppy and "chavy". If I did my mode in formal, it would give the wrong impression of the magazine and teens/young adults wouldn't really understand completely all the words used and also that age limit would want to read things that are easy and simple yet have meaning, and so I will be using this on my magazine.

-------

By researching and writing about the text and font that I will be using and what other magazines use, this has gave me a further insight into how to create a magazine and what works and what doesn't which is really helpful.

  1. There is much here that is useful and well-considered Jennie, however you do need to find proof that there is both a niche and audience for your magazine - you need to conduct market research.
