With magazines, the front cover image consist with different shots, background and angles to make the whole image look effective, eye catching and desirable.
-----
Shots
The shots used on front covers can either be, medium shot, long shot or close up. These are used to make the feature model or celebrity look good to the audience.
-- Medium Shot -- The mid shot shows the "Subject" from above the waist as the lower part of the body is less important as your eye sight usually concentrates on the face. And it also gives a personal flavor to the image as its as if your having a conversation or actually seeing seeing the person. Usually this shot shows more background than a close up, which shows around the body. This space can be used up by putting information and writing around the figure. Also this image can make room for hand gestures and poses to make the image more attractive and bold. This shot overall is neutral and doesn't make you concentrate on the image too much which is suitable for anything.
-- Close Up -- This shot is used to make the reader/audience concentrate on the "subject" that takes up the frame. By having this close up shot, it exaggerates the features and the emotional state if it was a person. The quality of the close up will be much deeper, bright and colorful if used with a good camera, this will make the whole image of the front cover eye catching which will make it successful.
-- Long Shot -- This can also be referred to as a wide shot. This shot makes the "subject" take up the whole frame, for example with a model, the whole body would be shown which gives length and height to the image. By using this shot the image will make you concentrate on the "subject" and the background surrounding it. If a plain background is used, this can be used to put information and writing on.

Angles
Angles are used when taking pictures to make the whole photo look more effective and to make it look better on a whole.
-- Birds Eye View -- This angle shows the image taken from above, hence why its called Birds Eye View, its as if your looking down on something or someone, almost like god. This can be used as it can be easier to take a picture of something, for example an animal without disturbing them or their habitat. This angle can be strange yet effective and can make the "subject" look unrecognizable which adds mystery.
-- Low Angle -- This angle adds height to the "subject" and also puts the viewer in the position of something vulnerable which also adds a bit of mystery and interest. This angle would mainly have background surrounding the "subject" mainly the sky or a ceiling.

Overall the image of the magazine is very important as this is what the audience see first which will then get them to read the article or the whole magazine. This is important and its helped me learn and gain knowledge for my magazine which is why I decided to research it in the first place. This has taught me to use my SLR camera to have the images in a better quality, to use either one of the shots I exampled, using certain techniques. By using my new knowledge, my magazine will hopefully be successful.
Well done Jennie, you are ticking the boxes - better to have images to demonstrate the points you were making about camera work, even of they are purely experimental and nothing to do with your magazine.
