Indie?

Indie Rock n' Roll??

As I have decided to base my magazine on the genre of Indie music, as my questionnaire showed that most people liked that particular genre, and the fact that its my favourite type of music, many still question and even myself still question, what is Indie?

Ive decided to research this genre more so I can show off my knowledge and learn some, this will also help me create a style for the magazine.

What is Indie?

"Indie rock is a genre of rock music that originated in the United Kingdom

and the United States in the 1980s and earlier."

This type of genre are usually not as popular and successful as other types of genres, for example like R&B, as its been around for longer and the target audience is wide range. Indie artists and bands focus and advertise their music via certain ways, for example:

• Broadcasting on local radio stations
• Using the internet (Facebook,Myspace,Youtube)
• Touring supporting various acts
• Word of mouth

As my generation is easily and more exposed to this type of genre as its broad cast on the internet and that the bands and artists are easily relate-able as they are mainly teens too.

This type of genre attracts those who are interested in rock, experimenting, art, musicians, unique and creative as thats what Indie is, Individual. This is what well all want to be, we all want to be our own person and be different, and this genre is the meaning of it. The sounds are completely different to any other band, and they seem more passionate about what they do as they work harder because they come from an independent label from nowhere, trying to make it, and this is what we all love and what our daily lives are like.

Style?

Another reason to why I have decided to choose this genre is that the Indie style is fashionable, interesting and unique which will make my magazine eye catching for the audience.

Most teens you see around are in with the latest trends and fashion and this style "Indie" is in right now and so is the genre. As I consider myself one of these types, I can make it easier for myself and use my clothes and style to create a fashionable front cover for my magazine.

The style of Indie includes:

• Tight/Skinny Jeans
• Bright Clothing
• Converse
• Vintage
• Bright Make-up

I think if I use these elements to my magazine, the genre of my magazine will stick out and draw the audience in.

Why?

I have chose to do this type of genre for my magazine as I can relate to it more and I know about it more as I am a teenager and I listen to this music all the time. Also I think by doing this type of magazine, it will give me more of an opportunity to show off my unique ideas as I have more in common with the subject than other genres. And so this will give my magazine a unique edge and selling point than other magazines.

There are many Indie magazines out now, but they arent as popular as other type of magazines such as POP, as this genre is new. Here is some proof of some Indie magazines:

This magazine isnt a music magazine, but it has given me ideas for a sort of style to do for my magazine. I wont copy it, but I will add my own ideas to this idea to make my magazine different from others.
